Summary
It is generally assumed that corneal filaments from mucolipids contain desquamated epithelial cells. Lambert (1982) suggests that the filaments might become progressively covered with a homogeneous layer of epithelial cells. This theory is confirmed by observation of corneoconjunctival filaments under the light microscope.
