ABSTRACT

Carotid endarterectomy is an established surgical procedure to prevent stroke. The indications, preoperative evaluation, surgical tinning, technical details, complications, and special circumstances for the use of this operation are reviewed. Future developments in the surgical reconstruction of the extracranial carotid artery are also discussed
