Diagnostik und Therapie des Großwuchses

Abstract

Some of the most important types of nonfamilial tall stature are discussed by stressing the clinical features, diagnostic aspects and therapeutic possibilities. The indications of treatment, the diagnostic procedures and steroid therapy of the familial type of tall stature, the predominant variant of tall stature, are presented in detail. The effects, side effects and contraindications of high dose steroid treatment are described.

The important prerequisite for the evaluation of psychosomatic problems of tall stature is the understanding of the dynamics and variations of normal growth. This and the knowledge of methods concerning growth analyses continue to be the basis of an accurate diagnosis.

Zusammenfassung

Anhand einiger Beispiele werden Klinik, diagnostische Kriterien und therapeutische Möglichkeiten der häufigsten, nichtfamiliären Großwuchsformen dargestellt. Ausführlich wird hingewiesen auf die Indikationsstellung, die diagnostischen Voraussetzungen und die hormonelle Therapie des familiären Großwuchses, der häufigsten Form der Hochwüchsigkeit. Effekt, Nebenwirkung und Kontraindikationen der hochdosierten Steroidtherapie werden diskutiert. Die Behandlung einiger nicht-familiärer Großwuchsformen wird dargestellt.

Entscheidend für die Beurteilung des psychosomatischen Problems der Hochwüchsigkeit bleibt prinzipiell das Verständnis der Dynamik und physiologischen Variation des normalen Wachstums sowie die Kenntnis wachstumsanalytischer Methoden.
