Wichtige Irrenhäuser in Frankreich, Deutschland und England (1800-1900)

Abstract

This study contains a list of the most significant institutions for the care of the insane and also, at a later date, for mentally ill patients. We had to restrict it to the 19th century only and to the areas of Europe where French, German and English are spoken. Many of the most renowned psychiatrists and their publications are classified according to the asylums where they worked. The author refrained on purpose from any analysis or interpretation, glorifying encomiums or accusations, because from the scientific point of view it is more important to place on record the many names, dates and above all the architectural structures of monuments before they get fallen into oblivion.

Zusammenfassung

Viele wichtige Häuser, in denen Irre und später auch geisteskranke Patienten behandelt oder auch nur gepflegt wurden, sind hier gesammelt und geordnet zusammengestellt. Leider mußte die Studie auf das 19. Jahrhundert begrenzt und auf jene Gebiete beschränkt werden, in denen man damals in Europa Französisch und Deutsch oder Englisch gesprochen hat. Außerdem sind viele wichtige Irrenärzte und ihre Schriften einzelnen Anstalten zugeordnet. Absichtlich wurde auf jede Analyse und Interpretation, auf jede Verherrlichung und besonders auf alle Anklagen verzichtet. Denn zunächst ist es viel wichtiger und viel wissenschaftlich richtiger, die Fülle der Namen und Jahreszahlen und vor allem auch die Formen der Baudenkmäler zu erfassen, bevor sie endgültig verloren sind.
