Significance

Herboxidiene/GEX 1A, isolated from a strain of Streptomyces sp., possesses herbicidal activity against some broadleaf annual weeds. Additionally, it shows in vivo anti-tumor activity. The key step of the synthesis is construction of the trisubstituted dihydropyran core C via [4+2] annulation of chiral crotylsilane A (H. Huang, J. S. Panek J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2000, 122, 9836).
