Significance

Terpestacin is a potent inhibitor (ID50 0.46 mg/mL) of the formation of large multinucleated cells (synctia) associated with the pathology of HIV infection. The Berger-Tius synthesis features the Nazarov cyclization of allenol ether A to generate the α-hydroxycyclopentene B.
