Spatial reconstruction in 3D echographic examination of the locomotive apparatus
Aims: Three Dimensional (3D) Imaging is the next logical step in diagnostic ultrasound. It can greatly improve our understanding of anatomy and pathology of locomotive apparatus. The true value of free hand acquired 3D ultrasound data will be evaluated with an interpretation of a sequence 2D images reconstruction
Methods: The authors deal with spatial analysis of the data acquired in examining the patients for orthopedic indications. The own system for free scanning was used. This system which is a PCdevice attached to any ultrasound transducer provides various 3D routine check procedures of the musculoskeletal system. The probe in a short time snaps into the PC “cube of information“ which is composed of the smallest points -“ voxels
Results: The authors are demonstrating first experience in use of own general-purpose new technology in 3D USG scanning Spatial reconstruction uses the volume rendering method. It is an extension of the planar reconstruction method.
Conclusions: 3-D free hand volume imaging gives the examiner the freedom to generate anatomical views from an infinite number of perspectives and allows the examiner to explore anatomic relationship in ways that are not available with conventional 2-D imaging. The spatial reconstruction will enable to represent a nearly perfect anatomical model. The possibility of storing the volume data is considered a further progressive trend. It greatly contributes to enhancing the scope of follow up checks, enables comparison of expert conclusions and can serve for educational purposes. This digital technology offers various networking solutions and development of 3D telemedicine.
