Significance

The direct functionalization of C-H bonds by transition metals like palladium or rhodium has been a central research topic in the last years. The cyclization of enynes and diynes with appropriate reaction partners yields complex molecules in a single step. The authors report a rhodium-catalyzed cyclization of diynes 1 and enynes 2 with ortho-CH activated aromatic ketones to yield the corresponding products in high E/Z selectivity or enantioselectivity.
