Significance
Catalytic pathways involving highly oxidized transition metals can often yield products complementary to those obtained with traditional redox couples. The authors explored a Pd(II)/Pd(IV)-catalyzed aminooxygenation of alkenes to yield trans-substituted tetrahydrofurans. The mechanism of the reaction is investigated.
