Abstract

Rauwolfia caffra seeds yielded 0.012 per cent total alkaloids comprising the sarpagan compound normacusine B, α-yohimbine, alloyohimbine, an incompletely characterised yohimbine and the principal alkaloid, yohimbine. Chromatographic evidence indicated traces of norajmalan and ajmalan compounds.
