Significance

A series of polybinaphthyls are synthesized by asymmetric oxidative phenolic coupling using chiral catalysts 1. Monomer 3 was prepared in one pot through stannylation and cross-coupling and polymerized to afford 4. Sequential and tandem Glaser-Hay/oxidative coupling gave 7 (m = 0) for deprotected 5 and 8 (m = 1) for 6, respectively. Based on the tandem strategy, the authors synthesized the highly functionalized polymer 12.
