Significance

Corma and co-workers reported the development of heterogeneous C-C coupling catalysis with Pd and Au complexes bound to inorganic supports. Carbene-Pd and -Au complexes (Pd-1 and Au-1) were immobilized onto amorphous silica, mesoporous MCM, and delaminated zeolite ITQ via silanol tethers to form Pd-1 and Au-1/sil, MCM, ITQ, respectively. Schiff base complexes Pd-2 and Au-2 were also immobilized onto the inorganic supports. The catalytic activity of the immobilized Pd-1 and Au-1 was examined for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of PhI with ArB(OH)2, through which MCM-41 was identified to be an effective support matrix.
