Significance
This publication describes a simple and general method for the one-pot conversion of readily available aromatic esters into aromatic alkynyl ketones via corresponding morpholides. The products are highly reactive toward Michael addition and are important intermediates for the synthesis of various heterocycles, natural products or new materials. This protocol is very simple and does not utilize any transition metal. Ester of various alcohols react equally good in this reaction.
