Significance

This paper describes the use of a powdered Zr-ligand complex which can be easily stored and employed in useful synthetic transformations. Aldol reactions between a variety of silyl enol ethers and aldehydes gave ee values over 90% in many cases. The hetero-Diels-Alder reaction of Danishefsky-type dienes with aldehydes gave the [4+2] adducts with high yield and high ee.
