Abstract
The inhibition of adenosine uptake by endothelial cells which increases the local concentration of the neuromodulator adenosine and the release of adenine nucleotides may be involved in the pharmacological effects of essential oils via interaction between vascular endothelium and the nervi olfactorii of the nose mucosa.
