Sophisticated treatment options in reconstructive microsurgery have markedly improved functional and aesthetic results. In the upper extremity, complex injuries with multi-component defects are frequent and require individually tailored solutions for best results. However, patients' demands for an aesthetically acceptable appearance of even the most complex reconstructions add another challenge for the microsurgeon.
