The Use of Interdisciplinary Diagnostics and Treatment of Periodontitis with the KEY-III-Laser in Routine Medical PracticePublication History
Publication Date:
14 June 2006 (online)
The microbiological evaluation of periodontitis associated pathogens in subgingival plaques and the characterisation of the interleukin 1-genotype are part of the diagnostic assessment during a laser curretage treatment. In addition to its bactericidal effect, the KEY-III-feedback-laser (KaVo Dental GmbH, Biberach, Germany) also possesses a concrement-removal property. The outcome of the side effect-free and painless treatment depends on the bacterial virulence, the genotype constellation and the presence of concurrent systemic diseases. The interleukin 1-genotype yields useful information with regard to subsequent treatment.
