Significance

The authors have found that different imine protecting groups provide different dia­stereoselectivity in the direct Mannich reaction. The use of their dinuclear zinc catalyst results in good yields and high selectivities for the condensation of α-hydroxy ketones and imines. The use of enolizable imines was tolerated with various alkyl-substituted imine substrates giving good results.
