Significance
Lucilactaene, isolated from fungi of the Fuscarium genus, causes cell cycle arrest in p53 inactive cells. It exists naturally as the racemate. In this convergent synthesis, four fragments are linked using three organometallic-based coupling reactions. The synthesis was completed in 17 steps and 19% yield. For a previous synthesis of Lucilactaene, see: Y. Hayashi et al. Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2005, 44, 3110-3115.
