Significance

The stabilization of liquid crystalline (LC) phases by the photoinitiated radical polymerization of alkenes, commonly acrylates that are installed at the periphery of a mesogen, is widely popular. However, cross-linking a mesogen through its core is less precedented. Interesting ordered nanostructures, including dispersable nanofibrils from a columnar LC phase, were thus prepared.
