Significance

Clavolonine is a lycopodium alkaloid isolated from Lycopodium clavatum. The Evans group applies a feast of intramolecular cascade cyclization reactions in their synthesis of Clavolonine and several related compounds starting from a readily accessible precursor. This synthetic strategy offers an alternative to those previously reported which make use of a linear approach using cyclic starting materials.
