Abstract

Oxidation of 3-cinnamoyl-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H-py­ran-2-ones with [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene in CH2Cl2 leads to cyclization, thereby providing a new and convenient route for the synthesis of 3-aryl-7-methylpyrano[4,3-b]pyran-4H,5H-diones.
