Significance

Heterogeneous IBX oxidation was developed and BF3·OEt2 was found to improve the reaction efficiency. 1-Decanol was oxidized to decanal with polymer (BTcore EM NH2 100-200 mesh, 1.5 mmol/g)-supported IBX reagent 1 in a quantitative yield within one hour in the presence of one equivalent of BF3·OEt2 (without BF3·OEt2: 48 h, 42%). Various alcohols were converted into the corresponding carbonyl compounds under mild conditions and in high yields (94-99%). It was also discussed that the oxidation yields were affected by the tether parts of the polymeric IBM reagents (1-4).
