Significance

The preparation of a variety of homo- and hetero-tris(oxazolines) via a modular approach by the reaction of the corresponding bis(oxazolines) and 2-chloromethyl oxazolines in moderate to good yield on a gram scale is reported. These tris(oxazolines) are applied as ligands in an improved Cu(II)-catalyzed Michael addition of benzylidene malonate to indole in high yield and with high enantioselectivity.
