Significance
A novel four-component coupling strategy to synthesize polycyclic pyrrole-2 carboxylates in modest to good (41-74%) overall yields is reported. This synthesis began with the three-component reaction of N-benzylallylamine, ethyl glyoxalate and a variety of terminal alkenes.
