As I write this the summer is in full swing and by the time you read it it will almost be time for EUROSON 2005. The programme for the Geneva Meeting has been well published and for anyone who has not yet decided to go there is still time to go to what promises to be a good meeting with updates in most areas of ultrasound and to hear about new scientific advances in ultrasound all over Europe.

During the Autumn it is hoped to publish on the website the long awaited Minimum Training Standards in Diagnostic Ultrasound, the syllabus produced by the Education and Professional Standards Committee. We are greatly indebted to the entire committee but particularly the secretary David Lindsell for continuing to push this forwards and I would commend the document to all. A paper version of the document will be published early in the new year and currently is expected to appear in the February issue of the European Journal of Ultrasound (Issue 1).

It is a great pleasure for me to announce that the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) has awarded it highest honour, the Fellowship to Michel Claudon for his contributions to ultrasound over a period of many years. Michel finishes his term as Past President of EFSUMB in the autumn and should be congratulated for all his hard work which has now been recognised by the American Institute.

The Autumn sees a big change in the committees of EFSUMB with a number of elected members of both the Publications and the Education and Professional Standards Committees standing down after a number of years service and being replaced by some new enthusiastic members. The Officers of the Federation also change so that by the time of the next newsletter the first new committees will have met and new agendas will have been set.
