Executive functions are cognitive processes like problem solving, mental planning, the selection of action goals as well as the control and regulation of action. According to the actual knowledge of the science the frontal lobe takes part on these processes authoritative. Deficits in executive functions are clear hints for a damage of the prefrontal cortex and subcortical structures, like the thalamus and the basal ganglion (McPherson & Cummings 1998).

The frequent form of focal epilepsy is the epilepsy of the temporal lobe.

Äthiopathogenetic dysontogenetic neoplasia, dysplasia as well as a mesial temporal sclerosis are playing an important role.

Because of the important aspect of the attack manifestation within the bounds of brain development it might be possible that not only functions are disturbed in the area of lesion but although functions in the areas which are connected to this one (Huttenlocher, 1977).

Although research is going on the knowledge about function and performance of the brain of children with epileptic attacks is limited.

The cognitive stage of development at the point of manifestation as well as the duration of epilepsy is very important.

If the epileptic excitement has got a harmful effect on the cell metabolism an impairment of executive function is possible even the structure damage lies in the frontal lobe. Therefore the present study should take a contribution.

Executive functions were examined postoperative by 25 children at the age of 10 to 18 who got epilepsy because of a neoplasia, dysplasia or hippocampal sclerosis and by a control group of healthy children, paralleled on age, gender and IQ.

The registration of executive functions takes place with a neuropsychological test battery, consisting of 9 special tests.

Information about the personality of the children was established with CBCL/4–18 (Achenbach, 1991).

First outcomes show significant worse results concerning attention and planning of actions of patients with epilepsy.
