Lipoedema: Clinical signs and treatment
Lipoedema is often misdiagnosed. Patients are during many years treated with modalities with insufficient results, like venous treatments, lymphatic drainage and compression. Clinical signs that should make the physician alert for the diagnosis are simple, and easy to recognize. Lipomatous swelling of the legs or arms, cellulite, pain and easy bruising are most common symptoms. Secondary lymphoedema and resistance to improvement despite weight loss support the diagnosis. Pure tumescent liposculpture with the use of vibrating cannulas can dramatically improve the situation and should be considered as first choice treatment.
