Abstract

Since 10 years the laparoscopic approach for splenectomy has become a well established technique in centers of minimal invasive surgery. Indications are hematological and oncological diseases in elective surgery, especially splenectomy for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. Longterm results are comparable to open surgery, but furthermore the postoperative morbidity and convalescence of the patients as well as the cosmetic results are even better.
