The iron carbonyl complexes prepared using the Fe(CO)5/NaBH4/CH3COOH/alkyne reagent system in THF, on further reaction with primary amines (excess) at 25 °C, give the corresponding cyclic imides in moderate to good yields (51-64%) after CuCl22H2O oxidation.
