Optically active 2,2′-binaphthol (BINOL) derivatives were synthesized with moderate to good enantioselectivity via aerobic oxidative coupling of 2-naphthols using chiral (NO)Ru(II)-salen complex 1 as a catalyst under irradiation of visible light.
