Whereas 2-iodozincio-1,3-alkadienes, prepared from gem-zinc compounds and 3-bromo-1-alkynes, react with organic halides to give 1,3-dienes, those give 1,2-alkaldien-5-ols selectively upon treatment with aldehydes.
