(+)-Tanikolide, a toxic and antifungal lactone isolated from the marine cyanobacterium Lyngbya majuscula, has been synthesized enantioselectively by employing a catalytic asymmetric hydrogen transfer reaction as the key step. The synthesis has confirmed the validity of the proposed structure concluded on the basis of spectroscopic data.
