Catalytic hydrogenation by a bifunctional 5% Pt/K-10 catalyst, which is easy to prepare, was found to be an effective method to reduce C=O groups to CH2 in carbonyl compounds. This one-pot method was applied in a wide variety of ketones. A suggested mechanism of the reaction is also presented.
