A number of 2-hydroxyorganophosphines HOCH(R1)CH(R2)PH2 2 have been obtained in good yields by reaction of oxiranes with sodium monophosphide, generated in situ from red phosphorus, sodium and tert-butyl alcohol in liquid ammonia.
