Lithiation of 1-(Benzyloxymethyl)-1H-tetrazole, prepared by alkylation of 1H-tetrazole with benzyl chloromethyl ether, followed by treatment with a variety of electrophiles afforded its homologation products. Hydrogenation or acid hydrolysis gave the corresponding free tetrazoles.
