With the intention of finding facile access to sedoheptulose-7-phosphate (1), the behaviour of sedoheptulose as a substrate of yeast hexokinase was studied. Surprisingly, for the first time the formation of a secondary phosphate, sedoheptulose-6-phosphate (4), was observed
