Transition metal phthalocyanines 3 a-g, 4e, f and 5 e, g substituted with sixteen alkoxy groups and various chain lengths were synthesized from the corresponding tetraalkoxyphthalodinitriles and characterized by spectroscopic methods. In the UV/vis spectra of the hexadecaalkoxy-substituted phthalocyanines a bathochromic shift of the Q band up to ca. 80 nm relative to the unsubstituted phthalocyanines war observed. All described phthalocyanines 3 a-g, 4e, f and 5 e, g exhibit excellent solubility in organic solvents.
