Treatment of sulfoxides with acetic anhydride or N,N-dimethylcarbamoyl chloride (2 mol equiv)/DMAP (0.1 mol equiv)/activated zinc (10 mol equiv) in CH2Cl2 or acetonitrile at room temperature has been shown to provide the corresponding reduction products, thioethers, in good to excellent yields.
