A new scandium complex prepared from Sc(OAc)3 and trifluoromethanesulfonimide is an extremely different Lewis acid catalyst for acylation of alcohols with carboxylic anhydrides and esterification between free alcohols and carboxylic acids. The new catalyst has stronger catalytic activity than scandium triflate.
