3-Titana-penta-1,4-diynes, RC≡C-[Ti]-C≡CR {[Ti] = (η5-C5H4SiMe3)2Ti; R = singly bonded organic ligand}, can be used as organometallic chelating ligands (organometallic π-tweezers) for the breakdown of oligomeric or polymeric copper(I) compounds [CuIX]n (X = singly bonded inorganic or organic ligand) to mononuclear bis-(η2-alkyne)CuIX species, {[Ti](C≡CR)2}CuIX. The synthesis, reaction behaviour, bonding and spectroscopy of {[Ti](C≡CR)2}CuIX compounds are discussed.
