Photolysis of 1,3-dicyano-2-diazo-6-oxo-2,6-dihydroazulene in various solvents afforded solvent-incorporated products in good yields. The reaction in THF afforded a crown type tetrameric condensate with a 2,6-dialkoxylated azulene derivative in 60% yield.
