Titanium enolates of N-(benzyloxycarbonyl) amino acid esters react with aldehydes to give anti-isomers of α-alkylated α-amino-β-hydroxy acids. Best results were obtained with bulky aliphatic aldehydes and sterically demanding amino acids.
