The potassium tert-butoxide catalyzed reaction of 2-butyrylresorcinols with paraformaldehyde yielded a cyclic tetramer, which exists in the cone conformation stabilized by a cyclic array of hydrogen bonds at the peripheral position of the macrocycle.
