Oxidative cyclization of tricarbonyliron-cyclohexadiene complexes with an alkylamine side chain to iron-complexed substituted indole derivatives is easily accomplished in high yield using SET oxidizing agents. This method has been used for a synthetic approach to the framework of the mitomycin antibiotics.
