We report a five-step synthesis of 4,7-dibenzyloxyindole 6 which proceeds in high overall yield (53%). Different methods for introducing a tryptamine side chain onto 6 are discussed. Removal of the benzyl protecting groups provides an easy access to 4,7-indoloyuinones.
