The polyunsaturated 2(5H)-furanone natural products cleviolide (1) and (E)- and (Z)-scobinolide (2) and (3) have been efficiently synthesized in convergent fashion via palladiumcatalyzed coupling of 4-tributylstannyl-2(5H)-furanone (4) and 1-iodo-4-methylpent-3-en-1-yne (5).
