Various functionalized aromatic or heteroaromatic zinc organometallics, which were prepared electrochemically from aryl chlorides or -bromides in the presence of a nickel-complex catalyst and zinc ions, reacted with aromatic or heteroaromatic halides in the presence of catalytic amounts of palladium phosphine complexes to give unsymmetrical biaryls in good to excellent yields.
