The ipso effect of the trimethylsilyl group has allowed to build a new chemistry of electrophilic substitution in the aromatic series governed, not by the aromatic ring substituents effects, but by the position of the introduced silyl groups. So, the silylation/ipso-desilylation process authorizes unusual and highly competitive substitutions, when they are chosen in complementarity with classical organic reactions. 1. Introduction 2.
