(Trimethylsilyl)oxiranes react with benzenethiol in the presence of silica gel to give regioselectively α-adducts. Triphenylsilyl ethylene oxide in reaction with benzenethiol and silica gel affords a mixture of α and ß-adducts in a 6:1 ratio. Silica gel - catalyzed addition of benzenethiol is applied also to the representative all-carbon oxiranes.
